Stylidum debile, also known as the Frail Triggerplant, is a special carnivorous plant.
Polinating Insects, such as Bees, land on the violet-colored flowers, and trigger a spring-loaded arm which then swings and smacks the insect’s back with pollen. This unique approach to pollination gives the Triggerplant its name.
The flowers also have the ability to capture and digest prey via sticky threads on their flower scapes, and they definitely secrete the digestive enzyme protease. Part of the issue seems to be that triggerplants seem only to be carnivorous during their blooming season, making this plant more of a protocarnivorous plant.
Stylidium debile is one of the most undemanding carnivorous plants that you can grow. It tolerates freezing cold winters and hot summers with ease. This plant forms a nice ground cover which will allow it to eventually fill up your pot with new plants and can grow 6 to 12" tall.
Climate: Tropical conditions.
Sold as single 1" plug to be added to a pot or tray of sandy pure peat and kept wet always.
Stylidium Basic Care
- Fertilizer: NO FERTILIZERS required. Bugs are the best fertilizer.
- Soil: Sandy pure ground peat without fertilizer plus mineral media (perlite. lava, or pumice to keep the mixture somewhat airy. No potting soil.
- Light: Partially Shaded to full sun. Bright white LED grow light 4000K or full sunlight for carnivorous plants. South Windows can be great places to grow Nepenthes Pitcher is hanging baskets.
- Temperature: 55-90F

- Keep their LFS soil mix moist not soaking wet.
- Dormancy: Tropical Plants do not have a true dormancy.
