Nepenthes Jamban, a diminutive species from comes from the Barisan range in Sumatra. It is a highland plant growing at elevations of between 1800 and 2100 meters. Produces petite red pitchers. Jamban' translates to 'toilet' in Bahasa indonesia which is a suiting name for the shape of this incredible species. These are best grown in highland conditions. Because of its super cute size, and coloration, it has become one of the most sought after collectable tropical Pitcher plants in cultivation. Photo shows an example of the pitcher.

Climate: Tropical Intermediate to Highland.

Pitchers change in color, and shape as they mature, and also vary as the plant vines upward. Browning of pitchers is a natural progression, especially after delivery, and the plant will produce more when conditions are right.

Sold as single small plant; bare root.

Pitchers are normally clipped off prior to shipping because due to stress they will perish.

Nepenthes - Tropical Pitcher Plant Basic Care

  • Fertilizer: NO FERTILIZERS at the root. Bugs are the best fertilizer. An Osmocote ball in each pitcher once a month does help.
  • Soil: Long Leaf Sphagnum moss without fertilizer plus mineral media (perlite. lava, or pumice to keep the mixture airy. No potting soil.
  • Light: Partially Shaded to full sun. Bright white LED grow light 4000K or full sunlight for carnivorous plants. South Windows can be great places to grow Nepenthes Pitcher is hanging baskets.
  • Temperature: 65-85F
  • Water:
    • NO TAP WATER - Filtered Water Under 60 TDS Only
    • Keep their LFS soil mix moist not soaking wet.
  • Dormancy: Tropical Plants do not have a true dormancy.

Nepenthes Pitcher plants produce a pitcher off the tendril to lure, trap, and digest insects in order to supplement the poor mineral nutrition they obtain from the environment. The leaves do have an alluring fragrance enoug to attract inscts, and the pitchers are filled with a digestive fluid resembling HCl. With their delicate colors, fragile structures, nepethes species are not your classic image of carnivorous plants. Capable of killing insects with vividly colored leaves, differentiated into unique and sophisticated traps. The amount of digestive fluids secreted is adjusted according to the size and struggles of the bug.

All Carnivorous plants experience stress from shipping; from days of darkness. The plants will recover in 3-4 weeks with proper conditions. Please research these plants before purchasing.
