Utricularia gibba, is an amphibious Bladderwort. It can grow in very wet nutrient poor soil and is very popular amongst planted aquarium fans to grow it as a floating plant. It is an undemanding aquarium foreground plant. Produces yellow miniature orchid like flowers. We grow it submersed and allow flowers to grow above the water surface, too. Sold as a single small bunch to be placed in a lit aquarium or suitable container that will stay wet.
Utricularia, are commonly and collectively called Bladderworts. Tropical Bladderworts love warm temperatures, bright light, and lots of water. While there is little action happening amongst the foliage above, all the action is happening below the soil surface. Many Bladderworts are collected simply for their miniature orchid like flowers.
