Selectively bred Tenebrio molitor Mealworm ‘Grande’, to start your Colony of Mealworms.
These giant mealworms are common mealworms selected for their gigantic size, not superworms (different insect). There are no growth hormones, special diet, or genetic modification other than selective breeding. Named to commemorate Kim and Christine Wismann for their superb work creating this line.
Starter Colony includes Mealworms (larvae), and may also contain pupae, and the adult Darkling Beetles in some wheat bran that may contain eggs. Oat Bran is another good bedding/food material except that it is hard to sort the animals from. We prefer feeding a Chic Starter plus an occasional baby carrots, potatoes or other veggie du jour for moisture. Larger colonies can become your food scrap bin as they can devour certain food scraps over a few days to a week. Depends on the colony size and health. Always remove moldy and dried food.
Cultures for Chickens, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Mantis, Etc
We recommend at minimum, a three plastic drawer set with lots of ventilation to keep the adults (Beetles) from possibly consuming the pupae and larvae for moisture, plus a sifter set to include at least a 1/8” and 1/130” screens plus a pupae sifter to speed up the occasional maintenance process.
Shipping as adults and pupae; to start your colony.
